Cigarettes Viceroy are produced by Brown & Williamson, which was bought by BAT, and, starting from 2004,
by Reynolds American Inc., a joint venture between the USA branch of BAT and Reynolds Company. Viceroy
appeared in the USA in 1937 as the first cigarettes,cork-tipped, with filters in the world. It became the
first mark that added a cellulose acetate filter in 1952 that set up new industry standards. Filter Kings
cigarettes were presented in 1953. In 1990, Lights Box Kings also Box Kings Viceroy were presented on the
USA marketplace, followed by Ultra Lights 100's and Viceroy Ultra Lights Kings in 90's and New Viceroy
100's pack design, and Menthol in 2000. These Viceroy design changed to a more classic packing on cartons
and packs without changes to this product mark. The name of the marks has royal roots . Actually a
viceroy is a representative of a king who was a governor of a province or a country in the name of the
monarch. The word royal comes from French roi, with the meaning the king. This known mark proves its royal
origin to be a leader in up to date technologies in the area of tobacco production. Since 2004. R.J.
Reynolds does not take part in marketing back up for this cigarette mark but the company supports
distribution of the Viceroy Cigarettes where the buyers requests exist.
After the Brown & Williamson was mergered, the trademark has been underestimated, they continued to sell
it on the markets where demand for them was strong, like Romania,Turkey, Middle East, Argentine.
